It's an issue that's not even related to whether or not this war is just.
Is Saddam any less responsible for the actions of his regime somehow?
The United State also provided the bulk of the raw materials for Japan to build up it's Navy prior to WWII. Once again, unrelated to the morality of WWII itself.

During the war "justification" it seemed to be an issue that Chirac met with (then VP) Saddam in 1975 (and never since). Why does this fall into the category of "not an issue", even though Dumsfeld met with Saddam much later than Chirac (while "W"'s father was VP)?

I never heard that used to justify the war itself. It was only to point out that Chirac and France's intentions may not be as noble as they like to make them out to be.

We can argue the wisdom of past foreign policies (I would probably agree with you there) but THAT is not a valid reason to argue against this war in my opinion.

I'll agree with you there, it's hypocritical. No arguments from me.

However, the difference is that questions still exist about France's interests in Iraq today.
